Fires

In this section the students are shown how a Crime Scene Investigator would carry out a fire scene examination. We examine specifically what the CSI would be looking for and any tell-tale signs from the scene which may indicate arson. We explain how to find the ‘seat of the fire’. We take a look at the role of the Forensic Laboratory can play in the investigation.

Again with the aid of powerpoint and photographs, the students are shown fire crime scenes and asked to give their views on how the fires started.

Also, a real-life case of a fire where there were two fatalities will be outlined to the students. It initially looked like an accidental fire but following a crime scene investigation, it was shown to be a murder/suicide case where our presenters actually carried out the CSI work.
